Well, yesterday we got like 5 cm of ice pellets. I decided this was a good time as any to pick up some computer paper.

I know you guys like the unplowed lots, but given how much snow (probably nearly 1.5 feet) we got last weekend, if I went into a totally unplowed lot, I`d just get stuck.

I went to the university where all the students are gone for the semester, and I found a lot that had been plowed a while ago with a nice slick coating of ice pellets on top. I did reverse donuts, and a couple hand brake turns.

"When the snow last from October to May you gotta take advantage and hoon all the days"

You did good to cancel your trip to Quebec City - the drive home would've been murder. The ice pellets and rain just didn't stop yesterday. I'm not looking forward to shoveling the car out today...

In my old car, I did some handbrake turns on the snow with the kids. They loved it, although the wife was less impressed. The new car has an electric parking brake (boo!) so it's not an option...

Yeah I am glad I didn't go. Friday night when I would have been leaving, they closed down the 417 (mind you, westbound not east) because there was such a bad crash.

Me and my neighbour already shoveled ourselves out, more or less.

The amount of ice pellets yesterday was nuts. I parked my car for about 5 minutes, and then had to scrape again. Goodness.

I have never been in a car with an electric parking brake. Does it come on automatically when the car is parked??

No, it's a push-button affair - push and count to 3 while it slowly squeezes the brake. Not very exciting, and certainly not necessary. It was picked as the #1 most worthless new car feature: http://jalopnik.com/the-ten-most-w…

Interesting. In my opinion the one advantage of the actual lever is when the brake breaks as it will eventually do, you know for sure because there is no resistance. How can you tell with an electronic brake?

How can you tell? Your car rolls down a hill and runs over someone's dog.

In all seriousness, I don't know if they put these electronic brakes on manual cars as well, or only on the automatics. When it engages, you can hear it (electric motor sound) and you can feel the brake pedal pull away from your foot a bit. But I don't know what happens if it doesn't work, 'cause mine hasn't broken yet.

I'm currently driving a car with an electric handbrake and the only upside I've noticed is that it releases automatically when you set off. Handy!

Well, when it breaks, let me know. LOL.

I don't know if mine does or not, I guess I should check the manual. I'm perhaps a bit afraid to test it empirically...

When you see a black, driverless Passat wagon with Quebec license plates rolling gently down the wrong side of your street, you'll know.

Hey BJ, I am not sure what part of Quebec you're in, but this is happening in Quebec near it's border with Ontario!
